Is running away from shock cavalry charge and attack on when shock cavalry lost momentum is effective?

Even the AI does this. I just finished a Caesar in Gaul campaign as the Romans on very hard and in many battles the AI attacked my front line head on and then pulled its units straight through my legionaries (still mostly intact) and demolished my skirmishers. Drove me mad. It especially liked doing this when having more infantry than me. Charged my front line with a superior amount of units, then pulled half of them through and attacked my skirmishers or my front line from behind. I've been playing this game for more than a thousand hours and for some reason this mostly seems to happen in Caesar in Gaul. That's my impression at least.

Ebdanians have some fairly good elite level cav (ranged with low ammo but good in melee too), nicely armoured infantry and some decent skirmisher units. Pretty mid faction overall though. I think Caledonians are the standout faction cos of their excellent anti-cav spearmen that scare horses along with their elite archers and they even have some pretty good axemen. With a bit of tactics you can be unstoppable with them and I'd actually consider them to be a fair bit above average overall. Picts just have an awful roster though. The only thing they have going for them is their infantry which really isn't great especially with their poor armour and lack of quality spearmen like the Caledonians have.

The Settlement Recruitment Beacon DOES broadcast on your Pip-Boy, you just gotta wait like two minutes and then you'll hear the message and music. Just tune it in and walk around for a while. You will hear it broadcast every so often.

Tiw Is an earlier name for "Tyr" the god of war, much less prevalent God in the scandinavian peninsula, no place-names etc of him in here Sweden or Norway however there are findings related to him in Denmark and mainland Northern Europe. Tor is not however a God of war, the gods of war has mainly been tyr in mainland Europe and odin in scandinavia, Reading up on these two gods and how they replaced one another in different parts and evolved is really interesting! About Göteborg! We also have 3 regions(as all countries) and one of them is called "Götaland"(land of geats), "svealand"(land of svear), "norrland"(land of the north)

By the way, I don’t understand why you grabbed the lone phalanx units from the sides, if you could just attack in the back, and there would be even fewer losses. What a genius the author is, low bow. I will ask the enemy not to line up in a wall, but to line up in checkers.

Im playing as dalmati now and best logic to use this: if enemy have higher charge bonus than yours then you hold your ground

The issue with Rome 2’s depiction of pikes is that it attempts to adopt a rock paper scissors approach with unit counters. Pikes basically beat, or seriously degrade, anything charging frontally, but are in turn vulnerable to rear charges and missile fire and get messed up when caught out of formation. The historical reality was that pike units were in fact much more flexible - meaning they could be used as a massed wall of spears but also as more flexible infantry. The other reality is that they were not the insta-death, mass-killing machines as depicted in game. They were excellent at pinning enemy forces to enable supporting units (cav or other infantry) to flank or exploit weakness in the enemy line. Vanilla, IMO, does a poor job at showcasing this nuance. DEI mod, by comparison, does a decent job of depicting pike units - their killing speed is slowed to a crawl, but they can hold out nearly indefinitely from frontal attacks. Combined arms tactics have much more relevance in this mod.

I hate that they never bothered to make the behaviors for actually getting past the pikes smoother. Like sometimes some do get there but they bumble around like goldfish forgetting what to do next. Also none of them even try to finesse their way between the pikes. Makes for a poor show that gets old fast.

you dont use pikes like that. You put a unit of crap infantry right in the pike formation, a little bit in front of them, the pike can attack through the allied units and are in no danger to get into 1v1 combat. Works exceptionally in sieges. I have seen 1k kills+ on germanic pike units. if you ask me, they are the best units for sieges. If you are attacking a breach in the wall, send your offensive infantry in and then walk your pikemen into the friendly blob, so that their pikes can reach the enemy, but they are not in direct contact with the unit. This way the pikes do damange but receive none themselves.

I always use Missile Cavalry as Auxiliary Cavalry or Missile Units such as Roman Archers to deal with those Pikemen Formation , that will be better if I have Onagers or Heavy Onagers this siege weapon to deal with them .

I think slinger is the strongest missile unit in Attila. They can empty all of their ammo very quickly so they deal the most DPS out of all units. And when they're out of ammo, you can just throw them away like charge fodder and cheaply replace them afterward. I like slingers the most in mercenary pool.

20 units of full health pikes, double stack them in a rectangular shape, any AI army will throw themselves at the pike walls and die, any PVP army with less than 10 ranged elite units to kill a lot of the pikemen will also lose.

I think the hoplite wall is sensefull to also push forward towards your enemy to create gaps.

we also need a fire DLC for rome 2. fire not spreading and affecting a city or not even existing is just a joke in ancient warfare

The Royal Huscarls are the strongest Infantry unit in the entire Atilla. The Strongest in Charlamagne and also in Atilla. They have 95 charge bonus vs 90 and 80 of the Jutes and Eastern Roman Empire.

I know this is a years old video but I hope you will reply. If this faction lacks decent spear units, how can they counter a cavalry-heavy army, as many eastern factions have them? Those axe infantry with shields, will they counter the cavalry like Roman spears or Sassinid immortals do?

This is awesome. Great guide! ... Kinda odd how they move so much during an about face command (J key). It should be just a simple pivot in place to face the opposite direction. But it's still pretty quick and good to know.
